We currently offer Parent Coaching, ED Recovery Coaching, and EF Coaching (1 to 1). Group coaching (aka Life School!) will be offered in the fall of 2024.
When the going gets tough (or challenging...or confusing...or stressful...or...), it's important to have a support system ready to lend a hand. And our newest program, Life School, is just that.
Life School is a group coaching program that offers encouragement, guidance, and passionate accountability. It's not quite counseling but an in-between for those looking for extra support during life's biggest transitions. Life School will be offered to two groups of folks, high schoolers and twenty-somethings, as a monthly subscription. Come to some meetings or all - the choice is yours!
At Windhorse, coaching and therapy are more alike than they are dissimilar in that they are both predicated on building a trusting relationship between client and clinician that allows the clinician to guide the client into greater communion with their own mind. The coaching programs are not intended to replace therapy, but to supplement current or previous therapeutic work; the tenor of a Coach’s approach to the work will be more targeted, more solution focused, and with an eye on the client feeling confident about one day leaving the program.
An initial discovery call with our Director or Assistant Director of Coaching to assess a client’s current concerns and questions followed by a secondary call with the Coach for the specific program of the client’s interest. If it’s a match, the coach will follow up to schedule a first session; a tentative schedule for successive sessions will be proposed at the first session.
The length of a coaching relationship will vary greatly depending on a client’s particular goals, existing strengths and challenges, and the format of coaching chosen. The Eating Disorder Coaching Program runs a minimum of five weeks.
The particulars (and more on those below) will depend on the specific coaching program chosen, but all are structured around a 45-minute conversation with a coach; often, but not always, these conversations are scheduled weekly for a series of weeks.
Windhorse Counseling, a small, holistic group practice in West Concord, Massachusetts, is adding one counselor with deep eating disorder experience to our team. The ideal candidate is looking for virtual/onsite part-time hours (nights and weekends possible) with the potential to expand into full time work. This team member will be strongly relationship driven (both with clients and within the practice), embrace holistic perspectives, and will prioritize collaboration to better client outcomes. Specifics of the role:
• Our eating disorder specialist will believe that treating eating disorders and other addictive behaviors is a holistic process that relies on expanding a client's life into something truly bold and beautiful. Supervision (individual and group) available within the practice. Additional training is available. This clinician will also perform some general counseling in order to create and maintain a balanced caseload. Ideally, this clinician will be warm, dynamic, team-oriented, and comfortable working with clients from the age of 12+. Windhorse clinicians are also encouraged to lead groups pertaining to their interests.
Must love office dogs, books, and colleagues with a sense of humor! Please message for more information. We're not in a rush; as a small group, we're most interested in the right fit for our clients and our team.
Minimum qualifications: MA in counseling or social work. 1-2 years of eating disorder-specific clinical work; independent clinical licensure is required.
This is a fee-for-service position.
If you think Life School might be a good fit for you or your child, please use the contact form above to reach out. A member of our staff will then contact you via email to set up a time for a discovery phone call during which you can hear more about the program, ask any questions, and sign up if it’s the right fit.
Life School is a program that gives teens and young adults the space to work on executive functioning skills and complete important projects that might otherwise feel overwhelming. From the college process to applying for a job to budgeting to health insurance and all things in between, Life School is a fun, open, stress-free milieu environment where everyone gets to be a student of life.
Instead of paying per session, Life Schoolers pay using a monthly subscription fee. Similar to a gym membership, paying for Life School doesn’t mean you have to show up every week, but it does mean that you have access to services every week for that month. You get to choose when you come.
Some Life Schoolers may only want to participate for 1-2 months or for however long their primary projects take them. Others may want to participate year-round. It’s up to you, and signing up/dropping out is as easy as sending an email before the monthly charge.
Typical Life School topics include homework and studying, time management, college applications, job applications, budgeting, health insurance, and organizational skills, but there is no limit to what we cover in Life School. Whatever you’re struggling with, whether it’s concrete and specific or broad and uncertain, Life School is here to help.
Part of Life School’s mission is to offer participants thoughtful, dynamic, and consistent support for practical challenges. Participants utilize the support of the Lead Coach and the community to address particular real-world goals and seek experiences of feeling competent and confident.
Life School is designed to provide participants with community in addition to skill building and structured support with executive functioning challenges. There is less one-on-one attention and instruction offered in Life School than there would be within individual coaching.
Life School is divided into two cohorts, one for adolescents aged 14-18 yrs old & a group for young adults 18+ and each is run by a Windhorse Coach.
