Neuropsychological Testing

Sometimes, understanding what you’re experiencing requires looking a little deeper.

Windhorse Counseling offers neuropsychological testing to help individuals better understand their cognitive, learning, and psychological functioning. Through a thoughtful evaluation process, we look at areas such as attention, memory, learning, and other aspects of cognitive functioning alongside a person’s emotional and psychological experiences.

The goal isn’t simply to identify what may be difficult. It’s to develop a clearer picture of how you function, recognize your strengths, and provide meaningful recommendations that can support you in your everyday life.

What Is Neuropsychological Testing?

A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of how different aspects of thinking and functioning work together.

At Windhorse Counseling, neuropsychological testing combines standardized testing with an understanding of each person’s individual experience. This can be especially helpful when someone is experiencing psychological concerns - such as anxiety or depression - alongside cognitive or learning challenges.

Testing may help provide a better understanding of concerns related to:

  • Attention and concentration

  • Memory

  • Learning

  • Reading and other academic skills

  • Cognitive functioning

  • ADHD

  • Autism

  • Cognitive changes and decline in older adults

Every evaluation is different because every person is different. Our approach is designed to understand the individual rather than reduce their experience to a test score.

Who Can Benefit From a Neuropsychological Evaluation?

Neuropsychological testing may be a good fit for someone who is experiencing challenges with learning, attention, memory, or other areas of cognitive functioning—particularly when those concerns occur alongside emotional or psychological difficulties.

Evaluations may be helpful for individuals seeking greater clarity around conditions such as ADHD or autism, as well as for older adults experiencing changes in cognitive functioning or possible cognitive decline.

If you have questions about how you are thinking, learning, remembering, or functioning - and want a better understanding of why you may be experiencing these challenges - a neuropsychological evaluation can provide useful information to help guide the next steps.

A Comfortable, Collaborative Evaluation Process

We understand that the idea of an evaluation can feel stressful. There are no grades, and there is nothing you need to “pass.” Instead, neuropsychological testing is an opportunity to learn more about yourself.

Dr. Kristina Pinto, Clinical Neuropsychologist at Windhorse Counseling, takes time to meet people where they are and explain clinical findings in language that is accessible and meaningful. The process balances a person’s own experience of their challenges with objective measures of how they perform on standardized tests. This can be particularly valuable for people who may underestimate their abilities or who have not previously understood why certain things feel difficult.
